Scott Police Department/Acadiana High EMACS System
The Scott Police Department is proud to announce the deployment of EMACS, an Emergency Management and Communication System at Acadiana High School and established through a year-long collaborative effort with the Lafayette Parish School System. The primary purpose of this effort has been to empower the Scott Police Department and school administrators through both outside resources (patrol officers) and inside resources (school resource officers and crisis response team members) with the information required to rapidly assess and deploy the assets needed to effectively manage emergencies at Acadiana High School.
This state-of-the-art technology allows true interoperability by placing all groups on a common operating platform. All groups have access to unique emergency messaging capabilities, camera feeds from the campus’ surveillance system on a dedicated security network server. During an emergency, the school’s crisis response team receives special alerts on teacher’s computers and cell phones, while responding officers view live video feeds from within the school; enabling a much more effective response to the school. Scott Police administrators are also allowed access to the EMACS system from their new emergency operation center, giving off-site command and control, if needed. The system is capable of interacting with numerous security and life-safety devices on campus such as panic alarms, door and motion detectors, fire alarm sensors and building automation points.
The Scott Police Chief stated “Our officers no longer have to go in blind to emergencies at the only high school within our jurisdiction. EMACS allows us to quickly assess the response needs on campus during an emergency. This information is vital for my staff to make the best decision on the amount of resources to be deployed for specific emergencies. We can now make sure we are not only sending enough help also confirm we are not sending too much, making for a safer campus for students, teachers and responders”
